– ART & AUSTRALIA COLLECTION TO THE ART GALLERY OF NEW SOUTH WALES –
In 2003 Art & Australia established the Emerging Artist Award to nurture early career Australian artists. The award targeted artists in the first five years of practice, supporting them with a critical text and the illustration of their work on the magazine's back cover. Over the years ARTAND acquired some of these exceptional works, and this important collection travelled to the Art Gallery of Ballarat, Dubbo Regional Gallery, Gippsland Art Gallery, Hazelhurst Regional Gallery & Arts Centre and Ipswich Art Gallery, in partnership with the Newcastle Art Gallery. The travelling exhibitions allowed regional audiences to view some of Australia’s most significant contemporary works. Twenty-six of these works have been gifted to the Art Gallery of NSW, representing the collaborative vision of the artists, Art & Australia, NAVA and the editorial advisory board.
The artists supported by the Emerging Artist Award, who have now entered the prestigious State Collection, are Del Kathryn Barton, Kushana Bush, Zoe Croggon, Louisa Dawson, Christian de Vietri, Patrick Francis, Mark Hilton, Astra Howard, Sara Hughes, Helen Johnson, Jonathan Jones, Ash Keating, Peter Madden, Nicholas Mangan, Amanda Marburg, Laith McGregor, Rob McHaffie, Alasdair McLuckie, Sanne Mestrom, Selina Ou, Giles Ryder, Noel Skrzypczak, Grant Stevens, Michelle Ussher, Emma White and Jamil Yamani.
