Intentionally ambiguous in both form and function, The glaze, 2013, is littered with visual signifiers, art historical references and red herrings, leaving it open to interpretation. From an artist’s perspective, O’Brien tests whether satisfaction can be gained from wilfully investing in the pursuit of an action that he knows to be meaningless. And if there is no such meaning, and all that remains is aesthetics, is that alone enough? – Annika Kristensen
